We have noted that some countries proposed a self-review of the legitimacy of weapons at the stage of their R&D. In our view, although national reviews of a weapons have some positive role and many countries, including China, have relevant mechanisms for review and assessment, the national policies and practices vary greatly and, without legally binding force, they can hardly resolve concerns caused by LAWS, and may provide a basis for the legalization of certain weapons that that shouldn’t come into being.
